Tin disulfide can be described as an inorganic compound that has chemical formula SnS2. It is the yellow hexagonal flake which has it's CdI2 crystal structure. It isn't soluble in water, however, it is water-soluble in aqua regia. It is also soluble in hot alkaline solutions, and it is also soluble within sodium sulfide Solution, commonly used for golden paint.

Tin disulfide can be found in the alkali in hot and aqua regia solution and can undergo coordination reactions with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it's insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acids as well as insoluble in water and in nitric acid. It is also capable of resolving with ammonium sulfide to dissolve.

Electrochemical properties of multi-walled carbon Nanotubes, confined tin disulfide as negative electrode of lithium ion battery

The direct current arc plasma technique was used to make multi-walled carbon nanotubes-confined metal tin nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as an initial precursor in a methane atmosphere. Later, SnS_2@MWCNT nanstructures were formed by this sulfurization. The results of physical analysis of the material using Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD) as well as Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that the length of multi-walled carbon nanotubes measured around 400nm. Furthermore, the surface carbon layer was crystallized, and the thickness of the carbon layer was approximately 10 nm. A novel composite of SnS2 together with the single-walled carbon-nanotube (SWCNTs) was developed using a simple solvothermal method. It is found to have excellent electrochemical characteristics after being applied to the negative electrode of the lithium Ion batteries. At a current density of 1 A/g 100 times, the battery retains a specific capacity that is reversible of more than 510 millions of mAh/g. We used this same method to create a single SnS2 material and then conduct an electrochemical analysis on it. The results indicate that even though the initial capability of SnS2 material is relatively excellent, the cycle efficiency is low, and goes through a rapid decline after less than 20 cycles. The exceptional performance of this composite material in lithium-ion batteries is believed to be the result of the synergy that occurs between the two constituents which are SnS2 as well as SWCNTs.
